Rowland Gordon – Brookstreet Hotel: Food and Beverage Manager

Rowland has had a passionate love affair with food, beverage and entertainment from as far back as he can remember. Rowland’s passion for hospitality started at an early age, at a small restaurant and lounge operated by his parents in Ocho Rios Jamaica.  Throughout his education, hospitality was the backdrop to his business education and eventually earned him a prestigious academic scholarship to study at the Hocking College School of Hospitality in Ohio, USA where he earned a Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management.  After completing his degree, he was one of only a handful of students   recruited to work at the prestigious Greenbrier Resort a Mobil 5 star and AAA 5 diamond resort in West Virginia.  Over the next 7 years, as a Dining Room Manager in the fine dining restaurant, Rowland honed his craft alongside top chefs, maître d’s and hospitality professionals.  His level of service was further elevated while serving clients with exceptionally discriminating tastes and the most exacting of standards. It is here that Rowland was trained as a fine dining and tea etiquette expert and certified adult educator.

While his love of food is undeniable, it was another kind of love that brought him to Canada.  After arriving in Canada his experience and passion landed him the role of a Food and Beverage Manager, at the Four Diamond rated Brookstreet Hotel, in Ottawa.

As a promoter of community development and volunteerism, Rowland is chair of the Jamaica50 Ottawa Events Committee and has spearheaded the team that produced several high caliber, large-scale events in Ottawa including the Canada wide Jamaica50 National Launch and the Final Grand Gala.

When he’s not working or volunteering, he enjoys a robust pinot noir and creating unique island inspired meals.

Today Rowland brings 15 years of being an experienced professional in the food, beverage and event management industry.  Rowland Gordon holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with a focus on Hospitality Management and plans on pursing a Masters of Business Administration with a focus on Management and Change, and International Business.
